Salvation requires a three-step process. Here are the three steps:
Recognize you are lost
You must recognize you are a sinner hopelessly lost with no way of fixing it yourself. Here is what the Bible has to say about this:
For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. (Ecclesiastes 7:20)
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. (Romans 3:10-12)
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23)
Only God has the solution
Recognize that only God has the solution to your dilemma. This, according to the Bible requires shedding of blood for the remission of sins:
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)
The solution to our sin problem took place on Calvary when Jesus shed his blood for our sins. Here is what the Bible says about this:
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (Romans 5:8-10)
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace Ephesians 1:7)
Ask him to save you
You must approach God in prayer and then ask him to forgive him of your sins and save you. Here is what the Bible says about this:
Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (Acts 16:29-31)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)
Summary
A simple prayer is all it takes:
Heavenly father, I recognize right now that I am a sinner and lost without you. I also recognize that Jesus died and shed his blood for my sins at Calvary. I ask you right now to forgive me of my sins, come into my heart, and save me. I ask it now in Jesus name, amen.
If you are unsure he heard your prayer, then you have this guarantee:
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. (John 6:37)
